Reviewing Easy Read
Purpose
Reviewing Easy Read exists to ensure that Easy Read documents are both technically compliant with Easy Read standards and accurately reflect the intent of the original document. Without review, errors in translation — whether produced by humans or AI — may go uncorrected, reducing accessibility and potentially creating misinformation.
Scope
Reviewing Easy Read applies to all Easy Read documents prior to publication. It is recommended following any translation process, including AI powered translation. Review may be conducted by an Easy Read professional or, with appropriate guidance, by a lay person. Ideally, review includes input from people with lived experience of using Easy Read.
Components
Accuracy check: does the Easy Read version correctly convey the meaning of the original document?
Standards check: does the document meet Easy Read criteria (sentence length, vocabulary, imagery, layout)?
Usability check: can a person from the target audience independently understand the document?
Image relevance check: are the selected images appropriate and contextually accurate?
Lived experience review: where possible, review by a person who uses Easy Read
Outputs
A reviewed and approved Easy Read document that is accurate, standards-compliant, and ready for publication.
